Interested in applying? Fantastic! Below is a brief guide that will hopefully fill in any blanks where character creation is concerned. It isn’t so much an application guide as details about the standards we expect from you after joining; our application form is very brief. Once you’ve given that a once over, you’ll find a link to the application form at the bottom of the page.
Character Guide
NAMES: As Trip is a futuristic site, you have a whole host of possibilities for names. Due to the nature of Nassa’s situation with the corporations, many people – particularly insurgents or those who just don’t agree with the corps – adopt code names or aliases which are perfectly acceptable to apply under rather than a real name. Aliases could be anything from a regular word to a futuristic-sounding jumble of letters, maybe even a number. People who aren’t fussed with the state of the government or the corps would be more willing to offer up their real name and surname would still have fairly unique names. As with the code names, these names could be unusual words, an exotic mix of jumbled letters, or just uncommon names that we might find in our own society. ‘John Smiths’ would be fairly rare.
OCCUPATION: Your character’s occupation is yours to decide, providing that it’s reasonable. He or she could be a doctor, a teacher, an engineer, a pilot, unemployed, a salesperson, a Mercury Enterprises secretary, a celebrity – it’s totally up to you. However, please be aware that you cannot apply as the head of one of the corporations, though applying as a lower ranked employee or someone simply affiliated with them is acceptable. Role play samples for people applying for such positions, or for a place in the Resistance, are mandatory and would need to be of good quality writing.
AGE: You are welcome to apply as a person of any age or gender, but please be realistic where age and profession are concerned. You don’t get a great many 16 year old ace hackers, nor are skilled doctors or scientists often in their early twenties. Again, be original where age is concerned – life doesn’t end at thirty, and the technology in the role play means that a fifty year old could still look in their thirties if they wanted to.
AFFILIATION: Is your character affiliated with the Resistance, the Corps or no one. If affiliated with no one, they are simply a normal, everyday member of society rather than a rebel or member of the corporations, and these kinds of people are the most common. The Resistance and the Corps will have limited places, and these options will be removed once those limits are reached. If you want to apply as a member of the Resistance or Corps, please ensure that you have read the page for that particular organisation.
CHARACTER IDEAS: Although our application form does not ask for details, it’s worth thinking about what they might be like before you hit submit. Please remember that we do not want perfect, flawless characters or characters with tragic pasts who just want to be loved. Think of something fun and unique; there’s endless possibilities.
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE: This needs to be of good quality writing (especially if applying for an important position) but do not confuse quality with quantity. I don’t care if you can write eight paragraphs per post – I care if it is good, fluid prose and doesn’t contain spelling or grammatical errors. Don’t wow with post length, wow with great writing. This can be from any site, or you can write a new one as the character you are applying as, but please try to make sure that it represents your average posts. Like I’ve mentioned already, we’re not asking for a novel – a couple of paragraphs will suffice.
